Arts Programs

The Center for Education has been working to develop new arts programming to further engage visitors with the Mütter Museum’s collections and enrich their experience. The arts program represents an intersection between the arts and the sciences that has existed for centuries as artists historically assisted doctors by drafting images of the human anatomy, dissections, surgical operations, and other scientific illustrations. Our programming reflects this dual interest in the body and the arts: we offer classes and workshops such as Drawing Anatomical Anomalies, an 8-week course where students draw directly from specimens; Exquisite Corpses, an etching class taught in tandem with Second State Press, A Night of Botanical Drawing and Cocktails, a summer event where students draw plants in the Benjamin Rush Medicinal Garden; an Alice in Wonderland stop-motion animation workshop in conjunction with the Mütter’s The Medical Oddities of Alice exhibition; and more!
